Clare Cowley – Original Paintings Turned into a Retail-Ready Silk Scarf Collection

The starting point

Clare Cowley is a working artist who painted a beautiful representation of Hummingbird in intricate, luminous colours.

She had always wanted to offer customers a piece of her artwork they could wear. Silk scarves were the obvious format. She came to Bhavna Rishi London looking for someone who would treat the translation professionally taking care of the colours, the fabric and the full production.

What we did

Understanding the work first. Before any technical decisions were made, the focus was on understanding what made Clare’s paintings distinctive, the colour relationships, the layering, the detail that was non-negotiable in a silk reproduction.

Colour matching through sampling. Silk behaves differently from canvas. The same colour values look different on a smooth, light-reflective surface. The sampling process was used not as a formality but as a calibration, adjusting until the scarf matched the painting, not just the digital file.

Fabric and weight selection. Silk weight affects how a print reads, how a scarf drapes, and how it feels when handled. The fabric was selected to complement Clare’s aesthetic, lightweight, with a fine surface that holds colour saturation.

Custom silk bag packaging. The finished scarves were packaged in custom-made silk bags, producing the packaging as part of the project rather than afterthought.

Full production management. From sampling through to finished product, managed end-to-end, with Clare informed at each stage.

The result

Clare now has a silk scarf collection that carries her artwork faithfully into a new format. The scarves sit in her retail shops alongside her paintings, a natural extension of the work.

We also designed drawstring satin packaging bags printed with a colourful logo that was as beautiful as the product.
