Product Development & Sampling
From initial concept to production-ready sample. Bhavna Rishi London manages tech pack creation, fabric sourcing, manufacturer vetting and liaison, sample development, and quality control, so founders can focus on their brand without getting lost in the production process.
Who it's for
Founders who need the production process to work the first time.
First-time founders
You have a product concept but no idea how to get it made. This service takes you from idea to production-ready sample, with a process that doesn't require you to already know the industry.
Brands expanding their range
You're adding a new product category and need production expertise you don't have in-house. The expansion is managed without disrupting what's already working.
Brands ready to build stronger foundations
You're ready to build a production process on the right foundations. The right spec, the right manufacturer, done properly from the start, so every season runs with confidence.
What this gets right
Getting production right from the start.
- ,
Samples that come back accurate, so you move into production with confidence.
- ,
Manufacturers selected for reliability, quality, and the right minimum for your product.
- ,
A tech pack written clearly enough that a factory can work from it immediately.
The process
From concept to production-ready.
Brief and concept review
What you're making, what market it's for, and what quality standard is required. The brief is the foundation everything else is built on.
Tech pack creation
Full technical specification including materials, construction details, measurements, and colour references. Precise enough that a factory can produce to it without interpretation.
Fabric and trim sourcing
Finding the right materials for your product and price point. Fabric choice affects cost, quality, drape, print behaviour, and sustainability, and is treated accordingly.
Manufacturer research and vetting
Identifying appropriate manufacturing partners for your product type and volume. The right factory for a performance fabric is not the same as the right factory for an embroidered shirt.
Sample management
Instructing the factory, reviewing samples against spec, and managing corrections. Feedback is precise and documented, reducing the number of rounds needed.
Quality sign-off
Final review before production is confirmed. The product that goes into production is the product that was approved in sampling.
In practice
Precision that shows in the product.
Case study
Houldsworth of Cheltenham
HOC had a vision for an embroidered polo shirt that honoured their heritage without looking like a costume. Getting the embroidery to the right specification, detail, thread count, placement, required precise tech pack development and careful manufacturer liaison. Samples within one month.
Case study
DLK
DLK wanted a custom printed golf shirt that captured their brand identity precisely. The design had to work at a specific scale, in specific colourways, on a performance fabric. The result: "captured the vision perfectly with great attention to detail and creativity."
Questions
Frequently asked.
Do I need to have a manufacturer already?
No. Finding and vetting appropriate manufacturers is part of the service. You describe what you're making; the manufacturer research identifies who can make it to the right standard.
What is a tech pack and why do I need one?
A tech pack is the technical document a factory needs to produce your product correctly. It gives the factory a shared language to work from, so every specification is clear and every sample comes back as intended. A precise tech pack is the single most important document in the production process.
How many rounds of sampling are typically needed?
One or two rounds is standard for most products. Complex garments or products with exacting specifications may require three. The tech pack quality directly determines how many rounds are needed.
Can you help with fabric sourcing as well as manufacturing?
Yes. Fabric choice affects cost, quality, drape, print behaviour, and the sustainability of the product. Sourcing fabric to the right specification is part of the development process, not an optional extra.
Do you work with overseas factories or only UK?
Both. The manufacturer is chosen based on what best suits the product, quality, cost, minimum order, lead time. Some products are better suited to UK production; others require a specific overseas partner.
What is your typical timeline from brief to sample?
Six to ten weeks from confirmed brief to first sample, depending on product complexity and manufacturer lead times. Full production follows sampling sign-off.
